Six methods, each matched to a training aim
Six named methods, each matched to a specific aim, not interchangeable. Continuous and fartlek build aerobic endurance (fartlek varies the pace). Weight training builds strength, power or muscular endurance by load/reps. Plyometric (explosive jumps) builds power. Circuit trains several components at once. HIIT (short hard bursts + recovery) builds anaerobic speed endurance. Match method to aim and performer -- the key AO2 skill.
Aerobic zone: max HR = 220 - age, 60-80%
Continuous training is guided by a target zone, not a guess. Max HR = 220 - age (bpm); a 16-year-old is 220 - 16 = 204 bpm. To train aerobically, work in the 60-80% of max HR zone -- for that performer about 122-163 bpm. Below 60% is too light to overload; above 80% shifts to predominantly anaerobic, defeating the aim. Two calculations are tested: max HR from age, and a percentage of a max HR for a zone boundary.
Monitoring intensity: 1RM and the Borg scale
Two methods control intensity their own way. In weight training, the one-rep max (1RM) -- the heaviest weight liftable once -- sets load as a %1RM: lower %1RM, high reps (60-70%, 15-20) builds muscular endurance; higher %1RM, low reps (80-90%, 1-6) builds maximum strength. In fartlek, where pace changes constantly, performers use the Borg (RPE) scale, 6-20, to rate effort and self-regulate.

Justify the method, don't describe overload
The topic's most repeated weakness. Asked to justify a named method (e.g. why continuous training suits a marathon runner), candidates describe overload itself ("work harder") instead of a method-specific reason -- steady, sustained pace matches a marathon's aerobic demand. End with "...because for THIS performer, [the demand it meets]".

High load builds strength, not endurance
A definition trap: candidates swap the %1RM/repetition combinations. High %1RM (80-90%) with LOW reps (1-6) develops maximum strength; LOW %1RM (60-70%) with HIGH reps (15-20) develops muscular endurance. Heavy weight, few reps = strength; lighter weight, many reps = endurance. The wrong combination trains the wrong aim entirely.
"Boring" is not a creditworthy disadvantage
Candidates know a method's advantages well, but disadvantages are weaker -- the classic unjustified answer is that it is "boring", with no explanation. That earns no credit. Name a specific, developed limitation instead: hard to control intensity, poor specificity to the sport, injury risk from explosive moves, or cost/equipment.

Continuous vs fartlek
Two aerobic methods, easily confused. Continuous training holds a steady, unchanging pace with no rest. Fartlek ("speed play") is continuous training with varied pace and terrain -- the surges also stress the anaerobic system and mimic the changing pace of games. If your answer never mentions changing pace, you have described continuous, not fartlek.
Generic effect, not applied to the performer
Even a correct method effect is capped if left generic. "Weight training builds strength" in the abstract is not enough -- it must be applied to the named performer: a rugby player's scrummaging power, or a sprinter's explosive start. AO2 marks come from naming THAT activity's demand and how the method meets it.
Max HR: subtract age, keep the unit
The numeric strand has two recurring slips. First, max HR = 220 - age -- subtract the age; adding it, or using the age itself, is wrong. Second, a zone boundary is a percentage of the calculated max HR, not of the age or of 220 (60% of a 204 bpm max HR is 0.60 x 204). Always give the answer in bpm -- a missing unit is an avoidable mark loss.
Harder is not always better (aerobic zone)
Students assume more intensity always means faster aerobic gains, so above 80% of max HR must be best. It is not. Continuous training develops aerobic endurance, which needs the 60-80% max HR zone. Above 80% shifts to predominantly anaerobic -- a different, unsustainable effect; below 60% is too light to overload. Intensity must match the aim.
Top band: both sides, applied, specific
Match the command word: "describe" = what it is; "explain" = why it suits the aim; "evaluate"/"discuss" = a both-sided judgement. The top band needs a method-specific advantage AND a developed disadvantage (not "boring"), each applied to a named performer.
State how the method's intensity is monitored
Say how intensity is controlled for the method named: the 60-80% max HR zone for continuous, %1RM for weight training, the Borg (RPE) scale (6-20) for fartlek. Naming the right monitoring tool shows real method knowledge, not a generic "train hard".
Choose a suitable named activity, and commit
Multi-part questions often make you choose a performer first. Pick one whose energy demand matches the method -- an endurance runner for continuous/fartlek, a sprinter for HIIT/plyometrics. A poorly chosen activity makes every later part hard to score.
