Cookies — the digital kind, not the delicious kind.
Like most online services, EC2 Excel uses cookies to keep the platform running smoothly and to understand how it's being used. This policy explains what cookies are, how we use them, and how you can manage them.
This Cookie Policy forms part of our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Words defined in those documents have the same meaning here.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files which a website may put on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website or page. The cookie will help the website, or another website, to recognise your device the next time you visit. Web beacons or other similar files can do the same thing. We use the term "cookies" in this policy to refer to all files that collect information in this way.
Cookies serve many functions. For example, they can help us to remember your account and preferences, analyse how well our platform is performing, or allow us to recommend content we believe will be most relevant to your studies.
Certain cookies may record personal information — for example, if you stay logged in between sessions, a cookie will store your session details. Most cookies will not collect information that identifies you personally, and will instead allow us to collect more general information, such as how users arrive at and use EC2 Excel.
How do we use cookies?
Like most online services, our website uses both first-party and third-party cookies for various purposes. First-party cookies are primarily necessary for the platform to function properly and do not collect any personally identifiable data.
The third-party cookies used on our platform primarily help us understand how the platform performs, track how you interact with it, keep our services secure, and enhance your overall user experience while improving the speed of your future interactions with our website.
We do not use cookies to sell your data or to track you across other websites for advertising purposes.
The cookies we use
We use four categories of cookies:
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for EC2 Excel to work. Without them, you wouldn't be able to log in, navigate between pages, or use core features of the platform. Because they're strictly necessary, they do not require your consent — but we want you to know they're there.
| Cookie purpose | What it does |
|---|---|
| Session management | Keeps you logged in as you move between pages |
| Security | Protects your account from unauthorised access |
| Load balancing | Keeps the platform fast and stable |
| Cookie consent | Remembers your cookie preferences |
Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how EC2 Excel is being used — which features are popular, where users spend time, and where we can improve. Data collected is aggregated and anonymised; we cannot identify individual users from it.
| Cookie purpose | What it does |
|---|---|
| Page analytics | Tracks which pages are visited and for how long |
| Feature usage | Records which tools and features are used most |
| Error monitoring | Flags errors and crashes so we can fix them quickly |
| Traffic sources | Helps us understand how users find EC2 Excel |
These cookies require your consent.
Functional Cookies
These cookies remember choices you've made to give you a more personalised experience. They're not strictly necessary, but they make the platform noticeably better.
| Cookie purpose | What it does |
|---|---|
| Subject preferences | Remembers your selected subjects and syllabuses |
| Language settings | Remembers your preferred display language |
| Study progress | Keeps track of where you left off between sessions |
| Interface preferences | Remembers display settings between visits |
These cookies require your consent.
Marketing Cookies
These cookies are used to deliver relevant communications and promotional content aligned with your interests. We do not use marketing cookies to serve third-party advertising or sell your data.
| Cookie purpose | What it does |
|---|---|
| Email engagement | Tracks opens and clicks on emails we send you, so we can improve our communications |
| Promotional relevance | Helps us show offers relevant to your subscription or study profile |
These cookies require your consent and are only set if you've opted in to marketing communications. You can withdraw consent at any time via your account settings or by emailing privacy@ec2excel.com.
First-party and third-party cookies
First-party cookies are set directly by EC2 Excel and can only be read by us.
Third-party cookies are set by external services we use to help run the platform — such as analytics providers, payment processors, and infrastructure tools. These providers have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. We do not permit third-party advertising networks to set cookies on EC2 Excel.
Session and persistent cookies
- Session cookies are temporary. They expire when you close your browser and do not store anything permanently on your device.
- Persistent cookies remain on your device for a defined period — from a few days to a year or more — and are used to remember your preferences between visits.
We use both types. Specific cookie lifespans are set out in our cookie management tool, accessible via the cookie banner on our website.
Managing your cookie preferences
Via our cookie banner — When you first visit EC2 Excel, you'll be given the option to accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can update your preferences at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of our website.
Via your browser — All major browsers let you view, manage, and delete cookies directly: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
Please note: blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent EC2 Excel from working correctly. Blocking non-essential cookies won't stop the platform from working, but some features may be less personalised.
Via your account settings — Registered users can manage cookie and communication preferences directly from their account settings page.
Young users
As set out in our Privacy Policy, EC2 Excel is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly use cookies to track or profile users under 13. For users under 18, non-essential cookies are off by default and require active opt-in. We do not use marketing or targeting cookies in connection with users we know to be under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our platform evolves or as new technologies emerge. When we do, we'll post the updated version at www.ec2excel.com/cookies with a revised effective date. For material changes, we'll let you know via email or in-platform notice.
