Quoting the sine or cosine rule incorrectly
Even though both are on the formula sheet, students copy them down wrongly.
Some students quoted the cosine rule and/or sine rule incorrectly in examiner reports, despite the formula sheet.
Rearranging the area/cosine formula wrongly
Algebra slips when solving for a side, or the cosine rule for an angle.
In examiner reports students rearranged $\tfrac12 ab\sin C$ incorrectly when solving for the radius.

Using a non-included angle (not between and ) in .
In examiner reports the successful route used $\tfrac12 ab\sin C$ with $C$ the included angle; weaker attempts mis-assumed the side lengths.
Pairing a side with the wrong angle
In the sine rule each side pairs with the angle opposite it: . Pairing a side with an adjacent angle instead of the opposite one gives the wrong equation.
Sign slip in the cosine-rule numerator
For an angle use , with the side opposite . Putting the wrong side as , or losing the minus sign, gives a wrong angle.
Write the formula, substitute, then rearrange
Quoting the rule and showing the substitution earns method marks; keep full accuracy to the end.
Copy the formula exactly
Both rules are on the formula sheet — copy them exactly, including the term and which letters pair up, before substituting. A miscopied formula loses the marks.
Round only at the final step
Keep every intermediate value in the calculator to full accuracy and round only the final answer. Rounding a side or angle mid-calculation risks the accuracy mark.
