Training-route nouns carry gender traps
Learn every route beyond school WITH its article — the gender is not guessable. Masculine: un apprentissage, un stage, un diplôme, l'enseignement supérieur. Feminine: l'université, la formation professionnelle, une bourse, une qualification. People: un apprenti / une apprentie, un employeur / une employeuse. un apprentissage and un diplôme are masculine despite their endings.
Future = will; conditional = would like
Two tenses express plans. Future (what you WILL do): je continuerai, je ferai un apprentissage — the infinitive stem (drop -e on -re verbs) + -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont. Conditional (what you WOULD LIKE — softer): je voudrais étudier la médecine, j'aimerais faire un stage — the SAME stem with imperfect endings. Use a genuine future or conditional — not just the near future je vais continuer — when the task signals one.

Guessing a training noun's gender
Never guess a noun's gender from its ending. un apprentissage and un diplôme are masculine even though they sound as if they could take une; une bourse and une qualification are feminine. A wrong article (une diplôme, un université) is a Writing accuracy slip — store each noun with its article from the first time you meet it.

Present used for a future/conditional task
Examiners name this the single most cited Writing failure every sitting: they ignore the tense the task signals. Que feras-tu après le lycée ? needs the future (je ferai...); Qu'est-ce que tu voudrais étudier ? needs the conditional (je voudrais...), NOT a present like je fais un apprentissage. The digest cites je vais acheter for the required j'achèterais.

une qualité ≠ une qualification
une qualité = a personal trait (patient, travailleur). une qualification (or un diplôme) = a formal qualification. Candidates confuse qualités with qualifications. A task asking quelles qualifications an apprenticeship needs expects un diplôme or un certificat, not a trait like je suis travailleur.

Near future can't replace a conditional wish
Je vais continuer (near future) is a firm plan. Je voudrais continuer (conditional) is a wish — less certain, right when the task asks what you would LIKE to do. Task Completion is capped when the mood is unmatched: Qu'est-ce que tu voudrais faire ? asks for a conditional, so answering only je vais faire un apprentissage fails the framing even if the content fits.

je serai vs je serais — one letter
The future ending -ai and the conditional ending -ais differ by one letter but change the meaning: je serai = I will be; je serais = I would be. The same holds for je continuerai / je continuerais. The final -s is silent when spoken, so it is easy to drop in writing — proofread every future/conditional ending against the certainty you mean.
(general FL trap)
Regularising irregular future stems
High-frequency verbs take irregular future/conditional stems that must be memorised, not built from the infinitive: aller → ir- (j'irai, not j'allerai), faire → fer-, être → ser-, pouvoir → pourr-, vouloir → voudr-, devoir → devr-. The endings stay regular; only the stem changes. j'allerai or je vouloirais loses the accuracy mark.
(general FL trap)
Near future = future = conditional (false)
Many think the near future (je vais continuer) can always replace the future (je continuerai) or the conditional (je continuerais). It cannot: it is a firm plan, not the tentative wish je voudrais continuer. Used for a "would you LIKE" task, it shifts the meaning to "I am going to" — a mood mismatch that caps Task Completion (cf. je vais acheter for j'achèterais).

Match the tense to the question word
Read the question's verb first. Que feras-tu... ? (WILL) signals the future — je continuerai. Qu'est-ce que tu voudrais... ? (WOULD) signals the conditional — je voudrais. Never default to the present; echo the question's tense to protect Task Completion.
Name the route, then justify it
Name the specific route with its article — un apprentissage, l'université, une école technique, un stage — then give a reason, varying the connective beyond parce que: je choisirai un apprentissage car je préfère apprendre en travaillant.
Keep a second sentence in the same tense
After a future or conditional sentence, add a second in the SAME time frame instead of slipping to the present: après mon diplôme, je chercherai un emploi. Holding one time frame widens Range and avoids the present-tense slip flagged every sitting.
Proofread every -ai / -ais ending
Before finishing, check each future/conditional ending and stem: future -ai/-a/-ons/-ont, conditional -ais/-ait/-ions/-aient, irregular stems (ir-, fer-, ser-, voudr-). je serai vs je serais is one silent letter the mark scheme reads as a different tense.
