Component 03 is a portfolio of three finished, redrafted assignments, centre-marked against the same holistic criteria as the exam:
Use every drafting stage deliberately
Coursework's advantage over an exam is TIME: plan, draft, get feedback and improve before submitting. Use each stage for a distinct job:

Drafting is not optional extra work
A common misconception is that coursework is graded only on the polished copy, so a quick first attempt is as good as a redrafted one. In reality, drafting and redrafting is HOW coursework earns marks an exam cannot - it lets you fix the faults examiners flag: narrative drift, general discussion instead of evaluation, informative narrative, and accuracy slips.
Grounded in the digest's 5.3 cross-assignment findings (s23 Component 03): accuracy errors are serious across all three assignments, and the content faults (A1 general discussion, A2 narrative drift, A3 informative narrative) are all what a genuine redraft-and-proofread process catches.
A1: general discussion, not evaluation
A common Assignment 1 weakness is drifting from the source text into a general essay about the SUBJECT it raises - writing about recycling or social media rather than analysing the ideas, opinions and attitudes THAT writer expresses in THAT text. Keep every point anchored to what the writer actually says, evaluating those claims, not the topic in the abstract.

A1: an unsuitable source text
Assignment 1 also fails when the source text gives nothing to evaluate. Avoid a text that is:

A2: description drifting into narrative
On a descriptive title, candidates often write a what-happened-next account instead of sustained description - a drift examiners flag.

A3: an informative task, not a story
Some titles do not invite a real story - describing a historical figure, or retelling a film's plot - because the content is informative (known facts), not invented narrative. Check the title supports an invented plot (not a retelling), characters developed through thought and reaction, and a shaped ending. Coursework narrative is STORY-TELLING, not informative recall.

Accuracy errors count as serious
Across all three assignments, accuracy errors that impede meaning are treated as SERIOUS, not minor - missing articles and prepositions, tense inconsistency, and comma splices. Because coursework is untimed and redraftable, there is no excuse: give every piece a dedicated final proofreading pass for apostrophes, agreement, boundaries and tense.

Run three self-assessment passes
Before submitting, run three separate passes, not all at once: (1) task-fit - does the piece do what its assignment requires? (2) structure - a controlling idea, grouped paragraphs, a resolved ending? (3) accuracy - proofread for spelling, punctuation and grammar last.
Task-fit pass: does it do its job?
First pass: check the piece does exactly what its assignment demands - Assignment 1 evaluates THIS writer's ideas (not the topic); Assignment 2 sustains description (not events); Assignment 3 is an invented story (not a retelling). If it fails this, proofreading cannot fix it.
Do the accuracy pass last
Once content is settled, read purely for accuracy - apostrophes (its/it's, plural possessives), subject-verb agreement, comma splices and tense consistency. Read aloud, or backwards sentence by sentence, to catch errors your eye slides past when reading for meaning.
Component 03 -- Coursework Portfolio is an internally assessed alternative to Paper 2. Instead of writing under exam conditions, you submit a portfolio of THREE finished, redrafted assignments, each targeting a different mix of the Reading and Writing objectives:
Because this is guidance for coursework rather than an exam paper, the mark scheme is applied by your teacher against the same holistic criteria used across the qualification -- there is no separate "coursework syllabus" to learn, only the same skills, produced under different (untimed, redraftable) conditions.
