Travel verbs: 坐 / 骑 / 开 + measure word
Use 坐 (zuò -- sit in/on) for public transport 火车/公共汽车/地铁/飞机/船, 骑 (qí -- ride) for 自行车/摩托车, and 开 (kāi -- drive) for 车 when you are the driver. 例:我每天坐地铁去学校。(Wǒ měitiān zuò dìtiě qù xuéxiào.) — I go to school by subway every day. Each vehicle takes its own measure word when counted: 一列火车 (yí liè huǒchē), 一架飞机 (yí jià fēijī), 一辆车 (yí liàng chē), 一艘船 (yì sōu chuán). The full transport list stays in the study note.
Buy a ticket and ask journey times
Buy a ticket with 我要买一张去……的票 (Wǒ yào mǎi yì zhāng qù…de piào -- a ticket to…), specifying 单程票 (dānchéng piào -- one-way) or 往返票 (wǎngfǎn piào -- return). Ask times with ……几点开/到?(…jǐ diǎn kāi/dào? -- what time does it leave/arrive?) and duration with 坐……要多长时间?(Zuò…yào duō cháng shíjiān?). 例:我要买一张去上海的往返票,火车几点开?(Wǒ yào mǎi yì zhāng qù Shànghǎi de wǎngfǎn piào, huǒchē jǐ diǎn kāi?) — a return ticket to Shanghai; what time does the train leave?
Narrate a past journey: 先…然后…最后 + 了
Narrate a journey in order with 先……(xiān -- first), 然后……(ránhòu -- then), 最后……(zuìhòu -- finally), marking each completed step with 了 straight after the verb. 例:我们先坐出租车去了机场,然后办了登机手续,最后上了飞机。(Wǒmen xiān zuò chūzūchē qùle jīchǎng, ránhòu bànle dēngjī shǒuxù, zuìhòu shàngle fēijī.) — We took a taxi to the airport, checked in, then boarded the plane. Always justify your opinion of the trip with 因为: 这次旅行很舒服,因为飞机没有晚点。

Vehicle measure word, not generic 个
✗ 一个车、一个飞机、一个火车 — 个 does not collocate with any vehicle noun. ✓ 一辆车 (yí liàng chē -- car; bus is 一辆公共汽车), 一列火车 (yí liè huǒchē -- train), 一架飞机 (yí jià fēijī -- plane), 一艘船 (yì sōu chuán -- boat). Learn each vehicle measure word as a fixed set with the noun, the way you learn 一本书/一杯茶. A wrong measure word costs Accuracy marks even when the meaning is clear.
(general FL trap)
了 marks completion, not past tense
✗ 上个星期我们坐飞机去海边度假 (no 了 — reads as a general statement, not a completed event). ✓ 上个星期我们坐飞机去了海边度假。(…qùle hǎibiān dùjià.) — Last week we flew to the seaside. ✗ 我常常坐了公共汽车去学校 (了 wrongly added to a habit marked by 常常). ✓ 我常常坐公共汽车去学校 (Wǒ chángcháng zuò gōnggòng qìchē qù xuéxiào) — habitual, so no 了. Add 了 only for a single completed step, never a repeated trip.
(s22 Card 2 task 4)
Name a benefit, not just 好处很多
✗ 坐地铁的好处很多。(claims many benefits but names none — this does NOT meet top-band Task Completion, even though it is grammatical.) ✓ 坐地铁的好处很多,比如很方便,而且不会堵车。(…bǐrú hěn fāngbiàn, érqiě bú huì dǔchē.) — …for example it is very convenient, and it does not get stuck in traffic. Always follow a general claim with at least one specific, named benefit or drawback.
(s22 Q3(a); s23 Q3)
Listening: a true detail on the wrong item
The wrong option is usually a detail that WAS spoken, just attached to the wrong time, place or person — not a word never mentioned. e.g. a passage says an earlier train 晚点 (wǎndiǎn -- delayed) but the one asked about is 准时 (zhǔnshí -- on time); word-spotters pick 晚点 because they heard it first. Ask which train the true detail belongs to, not just whether the word was said.
(s22 P12 Q26)
One 没/negation flips a delay answer
A single negative or qualifying word reverses the meaning, and journey passages hinge on it: 飞机没有晚点 (fēijī méiyǒu wǎndiǎn -- the flight was NOT delayed) is the opposite of 飞机晚点了 (fēijī wǎndiǎn le -- the flight WAS delayed), differing only by 没有. Do not answer on the first delay word you hear or read; check whether a 没/不 negates it before choosing.
(s22 P11 Q17)
Read the second clause, not just the first
In a sentence with a turn (……但是……), the second clause often overrides the first, but candidates answer on the first half only. e.g. 飞机本来要晚点,但是后来准时起飞了 — the flight ends up 准时 (on time), not 晚点. Read or listen to the WHOLE sentence, especially the part after 但是/后来, before choosing an answer.
(s23 P11 Q17)
了 does not simply mean past tense
了 marks COMPLETION or a CHANGE OF STATE, not grammatical tense. ✗ 我以前每天都坐了公共汽车去学校 (每天 signals a repeated habit, so 了 does not belong). ✓ 我以前每天都坐公共汽车去学校 — habitual, no 了. Contrast one completed trip: 昨天我坐公共汽车去了学校 — one finished event, 了 is correct here. Check whether the action is a single completed/changed event or a repeated habit before adding 了.
Sequence a journey: measure word + 了
Name the mode of transport with its correct measure word if counting a vehicle (一列火车, not 一个火车), then sequence the trip with 先……然后……最后, marking each completed step with 了: 先坐出租车去了机场,然后办了登机手续. Keep 了 to the single completed journey, never a habitual trip.
Listen to the whole chunk, not one phrase
Process the full clause, not an isolated word. Watch a single negation or qualifier that flips a time/delay detail — 飞机没有晚点 (NOT delayed) versus 飞机晚点了 (WAS delayed) differ by one 没有 — and in a two-clause turn, wait for the part after 但是/后来 before deciding.
Advantages question: name a specific one
If asked for advantages or disadvantages of a mode of transport, never leave a general claim bare. Follow 好处很多 with at least one specific, named point: 坐地铁很方便,而且不会堵车 (convenient, and avoids traffic jams). A bare 好处很多 earns little Task Completion credit.
Ticket role play: do all five tasks in order
In a ticket-buying role play, complete every task in order: greet, request the ticket (specify 单程票 or 往返票), ask 几点开, ask 坐……要多长时间, then thank and close. Answer the original question confidently without waiting for the simplified alternative.
