Precise film, TV and media vocabulary
Reading and listening marks depend on the exact word, not a vague near-synonym; the full lists live in the study note. Genres: 喜剧 (xǐjù, comedy), 动作片 (dòngzuòpiàn, action film), 纪录片 (jìlùpiàn, documentary), 科幻片 (kēhuànpiàn, sci-fi). Roles: 演员 (yǎnyuán, actor), 导演 (dǎoyǎn, director), 观众 (guānzhòng, audience). Example: 我最喜欢的电影类型是科幻片,因为情节很刺激。(Wǒ zuì xǐhuan de diànyǐng lèixíng shì kēhuànpiàn, yīnwèi qíngjié hěn cìjī.) — favourite genre is sci-fi, thrilling plot.
Reviewing: opinion plus a reason
A strong answer does not just list what was watched — it evaluates it. Build phrases for a reasoned opinion: 我觉得……很精彩/感人/无聊 (wǒ juéde… hěn jīngcǎi/gǎnrén/wúliáo, exciting/moving/boring), ……演得很好 (…yǎn de hěn hǎo, acts very well), 因为……所以……. Example: 我觉得那部电视剧很感人,因为演员演得很自然。(Wǒ juéde nà bù diànshìjù hěn gǎnrén, yīnwèi yǎnyuán yǎn de hěn zìrán.) — moving, because the acting is natural.
Discussing the influence of the media
"The influence of the media" is the mature end of this topic: what effect films, TV and the internet have, not only what is enjoyable. Patterns: ……对青少年有很大的影响 (…duì qīngshàonián yǒu hěn dà de yǐngxiǎng, a big influence on teenagers), A 比 B 更 + adjective (never 很 with 比), 不是所有的新闻都是真的 (bú shì suǒyǒu de xīnwén dōu shì zhēn de, not all news is true). Example: 网络媒体对青少年的影响很大,因为大家每天都花很多时间看手机。(Wǎngluò méitǐ duì qīngshàonián de yǐngxiǎng hěn dà…)

Vague 东西/内容 not the precise term
Form-completion marks turn on the exact key word, not a general substitute. If a passage asks about a 电视节目 (diànshì jiémù, TV programme), a 新闻 (xīnwén, news item) or a 广告 (guǎnggào, advertisement), the vague 东西 (dōngxi, thing) or 内容 (nèiróng, content) does not score. ✗ 他喜欢看那个东西。 ✓ 他喜欢看那个电视节目。(Tā xǐhuan kàn nàge diànshì jiémù.)
Precise key word rewarded (s23 Ex1 Q3/Q5; s22 Ex1 Q1/Q4)
Wrong measure word: 一个电影 not 一部电影
Films and news items each take a specific 量词; defaulting to 个 (gè) is a marks-losing imprecision. 电影 (diànyǐng) and 电视剧 (diànshìjù) take 部 (bù): 一部电影; 新闻 (xīnwén) takes 条 (tiáo): 一条新闻; one episode takes 集 (jí): 第一集. ✗ 我昨天看了一个电影。 ✓ 我昨天看了一部电影。(Wǒ zuótiān kàn le yí bù diànyǐng.)
Imprecise simple structures not credited (s22 Q10; s23 Q10)
Re-stating the stimulus in Ex5
For an opinion article on the internet's effect on young people, weaker candidates repeat the two given viewpoints word for word. Top marks DEVELOP each idea with connectives (因为……所以……, 虽然……但是……) and add your own view. Example: 网络确实很方便,但是因为上面有假新闻,所以我们应该学会判断真假。(Wǎngluò quèshí hěn fāngbiàn, dànshì yīnwèi shàngmiàn yǒu jiǎ xīnwén, suǒyǐ wǒmen yīnggāi xuéhuì pànduàn zhēnjiǎ.)
Re-stated stimulus instead of own ideas (s22 Q28; s23 Q28)
Mixing up 的, 地 and 得 after a verb
After a verb, a complement of degree uses 得 (de), not 的 or 地. Reviewing acting or plots is where this slips: ✗ 那个演员演的很好。 ✓ 那个演员演得很好。(Nàge yǎnyuán yǎn de hěn hǎo.) Before a verb, an adverbial uses 地: 我们应该小心地判断新闻的真假 (xiǎoxīn de pànduàn, judge carefully). Keep 的 (attributive), 地 (adverbial), 得 (degree) apart.
The 的/地/得 distinction (general FL trap)
Lifting instead of re-expressing
Copying a whole passage sentence, with its irrelevant clauses, is not credited; extra or wrong material can cancel a correct point. Select the exact point and re-express it in your own words: from a passage about a student who started following the news, answer 他开始每天看新闻 (tā kāishǐ měitiān kàn xīnwén) rather than copying the line.
Lifting not credited (s22 Q9/Q13/Q14; s23 Q9/Q12)
Writing pinyin in the writing paper
In Paper 1 writing (Ex4 and Ex5) you must write in characters only — pinyin is not credited, so substituting pinyin for a character you cannot recall scores nothing for that word. Pinyin is tolerated only in the LISTENING paper, and even there it must be unambiguous. ✗ 我喜欢看kēhuànpiàn。 ✓ 我喜欢看科幻片。(Wǒ xǐhuan kàn kēhuànpiàn.)
No pinyin in the writing paper (s22 & s23 Ex4)
Not all online news is true
A dangerous idea: if it appears online, it must be true. In fact not all news online is real — some is 假新闻 (jiǎ xīnwén, fake news) — and a mature answer explains how to check: compare sources and be wary of sensational headlines. ✗ 网上的新闻都是真的。 ✓ 不是网上所有的新闻都是真的,我们应该小心地判断真假。(Bú shì wǎngshàng suǒyǒu de xīnwén dōu shì zhēn de, wǒmen yīnggāi xiǎoxīn de pànduàn zhēnjiǎ.)
Media talk needs opinions, not just facts
Listing facts — genre, actors, channel — is not enough for speaking. In fact 0523 topic areas must be discussed MATURELY, with opinions and often both sides (is a lot of time on social media good or bad?), not just what or with whom. A bare list such as 我喜欢看喜剧和动作片 (Wǒ xǐhuan kàn xǐjù hé dòngzuòpiàn) does not reach the higher bands; it needs a reason and a second view.
Discuss maturely, both sides (s22 & s23 Speaking)
Extended article routine (Ex5)
Extended article (Ex5, 250-300 characters) on the media's influence: give the case for and against, develop each with a connective (虽然……但是……, 只有……才……), add your own view. Example opener: 各位同学,你们平时用手机做什么?(Gèwèi tóngxué, nǐmen píngshí yòng shǒujī zuò shénme?)
Functional email routine (Ex4)
Functional email/note (Ex4, 100-120 characters): answer each bullet point exactly, name the precise genre (科幻片, 电视剧, 新闻), keep an email format, characters only. Example opener: 小美,你好!我最近看了一部很精彩的科幻电影。(Xiǎoměi, nǐ hǎo! Wǒ zuìjìn kàn le yí bù hěn jīngcǎi de kēhuàn diànyǐng.)
Short, precise reading/listening answers
In reading and listening, keep answers short and on-target — surplus material can cancel a correct point. Re-express the point in your own words rather than lifting, and give the exact media term (电视节目, 新闻, 广告), not a vague 东西 or 内容. In gap-fill, match the required word class.
This topic (Area B: Society, B5) covers films, TV programmes, news and other media, opinions about what you watch, and the influence of the media on young people. It appears in reading and listening (vocabulary, opinions), functional + extended writing, and the speaking conversation. Remember: in the writing paper, write in characters only -- no pinyin.
