Precise food and drink vocabulary
Reading and listening marks turn on the exact word, not a vague near-synonym; the full lists live in the study note. Learn the precise high-frequency terms: 蔬菜 (shūcài, vegetables), 水果 (shuǐguǒ, fruit), 营养 (yíngyǎng, nutrition), 均衡的饮食 (jūnhéng de yǐnshí, balanced diet), 垃圾食品 (lājī shípǐn, junk food). Example: 我们应该多吃有营养的食物,少吃垃圾食品。(Wǒmen yīnggāi duō chī yǒu yíngyǎng de shíwù, shǎo chī lājī shípǐn.) — eat more nutritious food, less junk food.
Opinion and justification, both sides
In Ex5 and the speaking conversation, healthy eating is a two-sided issue, not a list of foods. Learn phrases to state and justify a view: 我认为…… (wǒ rènwéi…, I think…), 一方面……另一方面…… (yì fāngmiàn…lìng yì fāngmiàn…, on the one hand…on the other…), 对身体有好处/害处 (duì shēntǐ yǒu hǎochù / hàichù, good for / harmful to the body). Example: 我认为偶尔吃快餐没关系,但是天天吃对身体有害。(Wǒ rènwéi ǒu'ěr chī kuàicān méi guānxi, dànshì tiāntiān chī duì shēntǐ yǒuhài.)
Reusable advice-and-habit patterns
Most healthy-eating answers build from a few patterns: 多吃……,少吃…… (duō chī…, shǎo chī…, eat more…, eat less…); 应该/不应该 + verb (yīnggāi / bù yīnggāi, should / should not); ……对身体有好处/害处 (…duì shēntǐ yǒu hǎochù / hàichù); 保持均衡的饮食 (bǎochí jūnhéng de yǐnshí, keep a balanced diet). Example: 我们应该多吃蔬菜和水果,少喝汽水,才能保持健康。(Wǒmen yīnggāi duō chī shūcài hé shuǐguǒ, shǎo hē qìshuǐ, cái néng bǎochí jiànkāng.) — more veg and fruit, fewer soft drinks, to stay healthy.

Wrong measure word: 一个茶 not 一杯茶
Food and drink nouns each take a specific 量词 (measure word), and defaulting to 个 (gè) is a marks-losing imprecision. 茶 (chá, tea) takes 杯 (bēi, cup): 一杯茶 (yì bēi chá); 米饭 (mǐfàn, rice) takes 碗 (wǎn, bowl): 一碗米饭 (yì wǎn mǐfàn). ✗ 我喝了一个茶。 ✓ 我喝了一杯茶。(Wǒ hē le yì bēi chá.) — I drank a cup of tea.
Imprecise simple structures not credited (s22 Q10; s23 Q10)
Adding 很/非常 to a 比 comparison
In a 比 (bǐ) comparison the adjective must NOT be modified by 很 (hěn) or 非常 (fēicháng). To show degree use 更 (gèng, even more) or 得多 (de duō, much more). ✗ 蔬菜比零食很健康。 ✓ 蔬菜比零食更健康。(Shūcài bǐ língshí gèng jiànkāng.) — Vegetables are even healthier than snacks.
Comparative required; no 很/非常 with 比 (s23 Ex2e)
Re-stating the stimulus in Ex5
For an opinion article such as whether students should eat fast food, weaker candidates repeat the two given comments almost word for word. Top marks DEVELOP each idea with connectives (因为……所以……, 虽然……但是……) and add your own view. Example: 快餐很方便,但是因为它太油腻,所以常吃对身体有害。(Kuàicān hěn fāngbiàn, dànshì yīnwèi tā tài yóunì, suǒyǐ cháng chī duì shēntǐ yǒuhài.)
Re-stated stimulus instead of own ideas (s22 Q28; s23 Q28)
Writing pinyin in the writing paper
In Paper 1 writing (Ex4 and Ex5) you must write in characters only — pinyin is not credited, so substituting pinyin for a character you cannot recall scores nothing for that word. Pinyin is tolerated only in the LISTENING paper, and even there it must be unambiguous. ✗ 我们应该多吃shūcài。 ✓ 我们应该多吃蔬菜。(Wǒmen yīnggāi duō chī shūcài.) — eat more vegetables.
No pinyin in the writing paper (s22 & s23 Ex4)
Lifting instead of re-expressing
Copying a whole passage sentence, with its irrelevant clauses, is not credited; extra or wrong material can even cancel a correct point. Select the exact point and re-express it in your own words: from a passage on cutting out soft drinks, answer 他开始多喝水,少喝汽水 (tā kāishǐ duō hē shuǐ, shǎo hē qìshuǐ) rather than copying the line.
Lifting not credited (s22 Q9/Q13/Q14; s23 Q9/Q12)
Reason vs result 原因/结果
Comprehension questions distinguish the 原因 (yuányīn, reason) from the 结果 (jiéguǒ, result); giving one when the other is asked loses the mark. Asked WHY someone changed their diet, give the cause (因为他以前常吃垃圾食品 — he used to eat a lot of junk food), not the new habits that followed. Use cause language: 因为……所以……, 由于 (yóuyú), 导致 (dǎozhì, to lead to).
Reason confused with result (s22 Q11; s23 Q13)
Healthy eating ≠ just eating less
Healthy eating does not just mean eating as little as possible or dieting. In fact 健康饮食 (jiànkāng yǐnshí) means a BALANCED, nutritious diet — right foods, regular meals, less sugar/grease — not simply eating less. Skipping breakfast (不吃早餐) to lose weight is UNhealthy. A mature answer talks about 均衡 (jūnhéng, balance), 营养 (yíngyǎng, nutrition) and 运动 (yùndòng, exercise).
了 is not a past-tense marker
Learners treat 了 (le) as an English past-tense switch and attach it to every past or repeated action. In fact 了 marks COMPLETION or a CHANGE OF STATE, not tense, and is NOT used with habitual actions marked by 每天 (měitiān) or 常常 (chángcháng). ✗ 我每天都吃了早餐。 ✓ 我每天都吃早餐。(Wǒ měitiān dōu chī zǎocān.) Completion 了 fits a single event: 我今天已经吃了早餐 (Wǒ jīntiān yǐjīng chī le zǎocān).
Aspect vs tense (general FL trap)
Short, precise reading/listening answers
In reading and listening, keep answers short and on-target — surplus or contradictory material can cancel a correct point. Re-express the point in your own words rather than lifting, and give the exact key word (营养 yíngyǎng, 均衡 jūnhéng), not a vague near-synonym.
Functional email routine (Ex4)
For the functional email/note (Ex4, 100-120 characters): answer each of the three bullet points exactly, use greeting–body–closing–name in a fitting register, characters only. Example opener: 小华,你好!我最近改变了饮食习惯。(Xiǎohuá, nǐ hǎo! Wǒ zuìjìn gǎibiàn le yǐnshí xíguàn.)
Extended article routine (Ex5)
For the extended article (Ex5, 250-300 characters): plan for and against plus your own view, develop each point with a connective (因为……所以……, 虽然……但是……), characters only. Example opener: 各位同学,你们平时注意饮食健康吗?(Gèwèi tóngxué, nǐmen píngshí zhùyì yǐnshí jiànkāng ma?)
This topic (Area B: Society, B3) covers foods and drinks, meals, nutrition, and healthy vs unhealthy habits, plus the balance between diet and exercise. It appears in reading and listening (vocabulary, opinions), functional + extended writing, and the speaking conversation. Remember: in the writing paper, write in characters only -- no pinyin.
